Exploring Nature in Jefferson City Runge Nature Center

Runge Conservation Nature Center Sign

If you’re looking to get outside and explore nature this summer the Runge Nature Center is a great place in Jefferson City.  The Missouri Department of Conservation manages the Runge Nature Center.  It is a 100-acre area off Commerce Drive.  It features walking trails, a visitor center with exhibits and live-animal displays.  They also hold demonstrations and special events as well.

I have been there many times and it’s a great place to get some exercise in and just be outside.  I really enjoy the walking trails on nice days, but the visitor’s center is a great place to visit too.  They have a large auditorium, three classrooms, an indoor wildlife viewing area, and library.  It’s a great place to take your kids if you’re looking for a little something different to do.

You can even register your family, scouts, schools, and other groups for a naturalist-led program.  Just contact the nature center for scheduling your visit.  They have 5 hiking trails to choose from with over 2 miles in all.  You can also climb the old fire tower to discover and learn more about the forest.

The Runge Center is a great place to explore and learn more about nature.  The best part? It’s all free! It should definitely be on your list of things to do in Jefferson City!
