Jefferson City ranked as a "Five Star" City in 2005 in Expansion Management Magazine in its "Quality of Life" rating, a position in the top 15% of communities for metro areas in the U.S. The magazine also ranked Jefferson City in the upper third for a Blue Ribbon rating in the "2006 Education Quotient" out of 2,800 secondary school districts nationwide. The citizens of Jefferson City are very proud to call this their home. The area offers a quality place to visit, work, play, and conduct business. The city has twenty-two baseball/softball fields, forty-one soccer fields, nearly 1,300 acres of community parks, six golf courses, three public libraries, sixteen movie screens located at three different theaters located throughout the city, 137 restaurants, and much, much more! Local Attractions for the entire family include the Missouri State Archives, Katy Trail Hiking/Biking State Park, Missouri State Highway Patrol Safety Education Center, Runge Nature Center, and the Museum of Missouri Military History.

Jefferson City offers all the recreational fun that a large city would without the metropolitan prices and huge crowds. New restaurants are opening all the time in Jefferson City; from locally owned and operated "Mom and Pop" diners that gives the small town feeling to large franchise restaurants that offer a variety of cuisines, there is something for every appetite and every wallet. Central Dairy Ice Cream Parlor, located at 610 Madison St., is the perfect example of the locally owned and family oriented hotspots in Jefferson City, or travel across the Missouri River and enjoy an evening at Summit Lake Winery on the beautiful patio overlooking the city.

There are many events held in Jefferson City funded by either private organizations or the city in order to bring its diverse population together. Annual spring events include an Ice Show, and a Spring Production by the Little Theatre. Salute to America, a 3-day event held in the streets of downtown Jefferson City and on the capitol grounds celebrates Independence Day. During the summer months, there is also an Old Car Round-up and Show, State High School Track Championships, and Cole County Fair. Annual events during the fall season include Oktoberfest, and Halloween Happenings at the Governor’s Mansion. Winter activities include Christmas at the Capitol, Holiday Candlelight Tours, Share in the Arts Program, and Kristkendelfest.
